Hope Prison Ministry

Jonathan & Jenny Clayton

Jonathan and Jenny Clayton lead the Hope Prison Ministry based at Pollsmore Central Prison in Cape Town, South Africa. Well after ACM I Missionaries Ron and Carolyn Butler moved to Cape Town in the late 1990’s, Jonathan offered Hope Prison Ministry as an umbrella program for the Theological Education by Extension (TEE) classes that Ron wanted to teach in the prisons. Jonathan eventually became a leader of the program and was able to take it over completely when Ron passed away in May, 2008. Hundreds of young men have gone through TEE and the program has spread to the churches in the area as the prisoners who were students are released and go back into the community.  Jonathan, as a former prisoner and as a vibrant and charismatic personality, knows all the prison systems, the wardens, the officials and is gradually moving into most of the major prison systems in South Africa with the TEE program and a program of reconciliation and restoration between the victims and the perpetuators of the crime.
